'How do I plant and grow the willow?'

Follow the planting / growing/ tending guidance in the Courting Willow course and you’ll be Golden !

Polish Purple

S. purpurea

Polish purples are a wonderfully versatile basket willow as well as fences or larger sculptural work with a beautiful green to reddish purple gradation when fresh and dry to a dark green/brown once cured and resoaked . Can grow 3-9 foot weavers ....sometimes even longer !! These willow are dear to us as they taught us some of our first baskets.

Black Maul

S. triandra

Black Maul is dreamy. A modeled green, grey, and brown - feels like youre looking at the colors of an ancient sea bed.

Can grow from 4'-9' and does great in our patch in western Washington though folks claim it doesn't do great in other parts of the U.S. We are on the side of trying it out! as it is beautiful in baskets, feels good to weave, and a favorite European basket willow.

+++ SOLD OUT +++

Brittany Greens

S. purpurea

Brittany Greens are a willow I started weaving with a few years back and later identified with their beautiful green/red modeled color when fresh. They are long and lovely weavers 5'-7' in length. These feel 'softer' in the hands to weave and dry with flecks of silvery blue/purple and light/dark red brown. A gem that brings warmer tones to the basket.

+++ SOLD OUT +++

Lambertiana

S. purpurea

Lambertiana grows long and narrow weavers and are a lighter green when fresh and dry a deeper blue/green/brown color. 5'-8' in length. That blue/green comes through once they're resoaked and woven into a basket. Lambertiana is a reliable willow to work into all parts of the basket and with varying techniques - strong bones and also can make those tight turns.

Americana

S. americana

A willow that fades green-brown at the earth to a deeper red-brown at the tip. Americana's bark has a soft/matte feel and look when fresh and dries to a dark dark red-brown. Sweet little buds that have a fleck of fire in them. Learning to love this willow. Grows in the 4-8' range. Give these willow a good long soak for weaving - they seem to need that.
